10 tips for a tourist in Alicante: what you should definitely try and what you can not do.
Going to any city in the world, it is better to get acquainted with its rules and customs. The status of a tourist does not always save from fines, scandals, and sometimes the real prison term and deportation. Therefore, we bring to your attention a few basic rules that must be followed in Alicante, the tourist center of Spain.
1. If you are going to visit cathedrals and temples, be sure to adhere to the dress code. Women should wear long skirts that cover their knees, trousers and shorts will not fit. At the top you can wear a strict blouse with a long sleeve, without decollete. Men must wear classic trousers, shorts and capri pants are excluded. For the top fit shirt, jumper or T-shirt with closed shoulders. Appearance is strictly checked by temple keepers. If they don’t like something in your clothes, or they are too defiant, they won’t let you in.
2. Alicante has a popular smoking ban in public places. If in other countries they often turn a blind eye, then the violator is threatened with a serious fine, even by the standards of Spain. But for heavy smokers, there are special places and zones where they can get their dose of nicotine with complete impunity. The hotels are allowed to smoke on the balconies.
3. All the beaches of the city belong to the public, so they are absolutely free. But do not think that money is not needed. All sports equipment, sun loungers and umbrellas are paid. If you plan to visit the beach every day, it is better to buy an umbrella. So it turns out to save on hire.
4. In restaurants and cafes are very respectful of the work of the waiters. Therefore, it is customary to leave up to 15% tip. Even if the check has a column for the service, the visitor must report the money in excess of the specified amount. Of course, some tourists may be indignant, because why pay a tip, if they are already in the check? In this dispute, almost everyone will be on the side of the waiter.
5. Autumn is the most unfavorable period for excursions. In Alicante, almost every day it rains, which will definitely spoil the mood and discourage the desire to travel around the sights. Consider this when traveling as a tourist.
6. To save money on transport, you can use the metro and buses. There is a very good road junction that will allow you to get to every corner of Alicante and see all the sights of the city without numerous transfers.
7. June 24 is a big holiday in the city. In honor of the day “Costa San Juan” in Alicante, there are many events and concerts that annually attracts thousands of tourists. But in this there is a minus – the city becomes noisy and crowded. If this does not scare you, then be sure to visit Alicante during this period.
8. The city has a lot of green areas with parks and squares. If in other tourist cities there are signs “do not walk on the lawn”, then in Alicante there are special places for picnics and sports.
9. The most popular attraction of the city is the Santa Barbara fortress on the mountain. Visiting of buildings is paid, but entrance and walk through the territory are absolutely free. So, if you have a budget trip, you can still get acquainted with the “highlight” of Alicante.
10. Hitchhiking around the city will be difficult. The famous services BlaBlaCar and Amovens are well developed in Alicante. It is better to use their services immediately. If you want to see the sights, it is better to book a guided tour for 10 €. But the residents of Alicante themselves assure that a walk will be much more interesting. It will allow you to explore all the attractions, it does not take much time and money.
